Srinagar, Jul 23 (KNO): The Government has constituted a Selection Committee for recommending appointments to the Jammu & Kashmir Mental Health Authority in accordance with the provisions of the J&K Mental Healthcare (Mental Health Authority) Rules, 2023. According to Government Order No. 571-JK(HME) of 2026, dated July 22, 2026, which is in possession of the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the committee has been constituted under Rule 5 of the Mental Healthcare Rules, 2023, to oversee the selection process for members of the Mental Health Authority. As per the order, the Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Health and Medical Education Department will serve as the Chairperson of the committee. The other members include the Mission Director, Jammu & Kashmir National Health Mission (NHM), the Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, and the Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. The government has entrusted the committee with scrutinizing all professional nominations and applications received for appointment to the Jammu & Kashmir Mental Health Authority. After evaluating the applications, the committee will recommend suitable candidates to the government for appointment to the statutory body. The order further states that the Jammu & Kashmir National Health Mission (NHM) will provide secretarial assistance and logistical support to the Selection Committee to facilitate the effective discharge of its functions—(KNO)
